After World War II, the company increasingly specialized in comics and illustrated magazines, becoming one of the most important publishers in the Franco-Belgian bande dessinée tradition. Dargaud played a central role in the development of European comics, particularly through its long association with the magazine Pilote, which it acquired in 1960.\r\n\r\nPilote under Dargaud marked a new epoch for European comics with the introduction of new creators and more mature creation. Through Pilote and the album publications, Dargaud published many of the most influential Franco-Belgian comic series and authors. In his best-known properties are Astérix by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, Blueberry by Jean-Michel Charlier and Jean Giraud, Lucky Luke (published by Dargaud for a significant period), Valérian et Laureline by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières, Achille Talon by Greg, and Iznogoud by Goscinny and Tabary.\r\n\r\nDargaud also welcomed many of the major creators such as Jean Giraud, known as Moebius, Enki Bilal, Jacques Tardi, Philippe Druillet, and many more. Works published were humoristic, adventurous, science fiction, fantastic, and historical genres. The company became famous for the high production values and for having helped promote the European hardcover album format to the dominant form of comic publishing in France and Belgium.\r\n\r\nIn later years, Dargaud went international and joined forces with Média-Participations in 1988, one of the largest European publishing groups, together with publishers such as Dupuis and Le Lombard. Though it grew from a base in Franco-Belgian comics, Dargaud continued to publish contemporary graphic novels and international works and remains one of the most historic and influential comics publishers in Europe.", "url": "http://www.dargaud.com/", "brand_count": 11, "indicia_publisher_count": 8, "series_count": 1677, "issue_count": 10860 }
